Whitewater Rafting |
Like other
Central Oregon communities, Redmond offers residents and
visitors the best of the outdoors. Whitewater adventures,
challenging climbs at the Smith Rock State Park, and hundreds of
mountain biking trails keep the thrill-seekers satisfied. For
more laid back activities, Redmond has over 24 golf courses and
endless miles of river for year-round fishing.
During the
winter, hunters can discover hidden spots for catching big game
to fowl. Local National Forest Lands offer cross-country skiers
a number of trails for all skill levels. For the downhill
skiers and snowboarders, nearby Mt. Bachelor and the Hoodoo Ski
Area give way to some of the best skiing in the Northwest. The
Sisters and Deschutes National Forests open fantastic areas
every winter for the avid snowmobiler, with miles and miles of
snowpacked trails to enjoy.
For
families, Redmond has several city parks with playground
equipment, picnic areas, public restrooms, and sports fields.
Other sites to check out in Redmond include: the Peterson Rock
Garden, Operation Santa Claus (a working reindeer ranch), Eagle
Rest Resort, and the Deschutes County Fairgrounds, where one big
event is held about every weekend. After a fun-filled day
in the sunny outdoors, don’t miss the multitude
of downtown shops to peruse or the fine local restaurants to
dine in.
